The GOSPEL Acrostic

The gospel message can be expressed by two acrostics. The first relates to aspects of the gospel, or what it is about; the second summarizes the message of the gospel.

The Gospel Defined

G – Grace: we do not deserve salvation, we cannot earn it; God gives salvation because he wants to, showing mercy and glory (Rom 3:24; 6:23; Eph 2:5, 8-9)

O – Offering: Jesus paid for sin by taking God’s judgment upon himself, satisfying God’s wrath (Luke 22:19-20; Heb 10:10)

S – Sacrifice: Jesus willingly laid down his life, shedding his blood; he fulfilled the requirements for forgiveness: the shedding of blood (Phil 2:8; Heb 9:11-14, 22)

P – Promise: God assures that everyone who calls on Jesus’ name, repents of their sins, puts their faith in Jesus alone will be saved (Rom 10:9-10, 13; Heb 10:15-18)

E – Eternity: those who are saved will live forever in God’s grace, worshiping, praising, and delighting in him forever (Matt 19:29; 25:46; John 3:16; Jude 21; Rev 21:1-6)

L – Love: why God gives grace; he does this because of his eternal, unconditional love (John 3:16; Rom 5:8; Eph 2:4-5)
